QUEEST, n. The wood pigeon, Columba palumbus palumbus (Sc. 1815 A. Pennecuik Works 105). Cf. Eng. dial. quist, id. It is not however certain that the word was ever current in Scot. It is thought to be a reduced or altered form of Cushat, q.v.
