I. n. A piece of wood fixed at an angle to keep a post or the like steady in an upright position, a stay, a strut (Mry., Abd., Per., m.Lth. 1967).
II. v. To fix, stay or strengthen an upright post or prop (Ib.). Vbl.n. in comb. corner rackings, see quot.Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 20:
Corner rackings, triangular pieces of wood inserted in the corners of rectangular shafts to fix the barring.
