REEV, adj., adv. ? Fresh, strong, of wmd.Sc. 1747 Lyon in Mourning (S.H.S.) I. 323:
The wind blew pretty reev from South-east.

[The word is of doubtful authenticity. It had been copied by the writer of the Lyon (Bishop Forbes) from a MS. of Capt. Alasdair MacDonald and may be due to a misreading of the orig. [? raw] or poss. to some confusion with Reeve, v.3, 2. There is no appar. derivation from Gael.]
