RI-DIKE, n. See quot. which appar. represents an attempt to explain the place-name, now Raedykes, near Stonehaven in Kcd., and near Glenmailen in Abd., where there are Roman camp-sites. The orig. of the element Rae- is uncertain.Abd. 1795 Stat. Acc.1 XII. 313 Note:
The appellations of ri-dikes, and grim-dikes, that have been given by the country people, sometimes only declare a pretty high antiquity.
