ROSS, n. Also in dim. forms rossi (Jak.), rossek (Ib.), rossik. A knot tied in a rope or tether in order to sborten it, a knot in a fishing-line which includes any weak or frayed part (Sb. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1968).Sh. 1899 Shetland News (24 June):
