ROUTHURROK, n. Also routher(o)ock, misprint ronthurrok (Edm.). The barnacle goose, Branta leucopsis (Ork. 1866 Edm. Gl.).Ork. 1806 P. Neill Tour 196:
Routheroock-goose, Bernacle-goose, Anas erythropus. The name . . . occurs in the old writers on Orkney; but is now nearly unknown in the islands.

[The word appar. originated in a misreading of a marginal note in Dalrymple's translation of Bishop Leslie's De Origine Scotorum (see S.T.S. edition I. 59) where routhurrock should have been written as two words, viz. rout, a variant of rood in Roodgoose, and O.Sc. hurrok, Horra goose, q.v.]
