SAPS, n.pl. In phr. saps and sodgers, the name of a children's game (see quot.).Abd. 1938 Abd. Press & Jnl. (26 March) 6:
In Saps and Sodgers two sides were chosen, a line was drawn across the playground, dividing the two sides. A boy on one side then threw the ball to hit one of the other side, and if he succeeded the boy thus hit fell out. Then a member of the other side repeated the procedure, and so on until one side or the other was “annihilated.”
