SCOSKIE, n. Also scoscie. The starfish, Asterias rubens (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 149; n.Sc. 1905 A. R. Forbes Gaelic Names 388; Sth. 1930 Fishery Board Gl., Bnff. 1969); also transf. of a star-shaped piece of dough folded over a cake of gingerbread (Bnff. 1969).

[By assimilation of the first syllable to the second for *coskie, ad. Gael. crosgag, crosgan, a starfish, dim. of crosg, a cross.]
