SCUDA, n. A twelve-oared boat anciently found in Sh. Hist.Sh. 1822 S. Hibbert Descr. Shet. 414:
The most ancient houses were . . . composed of wood; . . . planks were cut out in Norway . . . [and] these were said to be constantly imported from the mother country in large, twelve oared boats, named Scudas.
