SHIBBAN, adj. Appar. = stiff, heavy, hard to work, of soil.Per. 1822 Scots Mag. (July) 136:
Barley on shibban-land came up irregularly, and ran to seed on single stems.

[The word is not otherwise attested nor of obvious etymology. Phs. it is a printer's misreading of stubborn.]
