SHRIEK, n. In phr. shriek o' day, peep of day, first light, daybreak.Bnff. a.1829 J. Sellar Poems (1844) 11:
The lasses try to treat the lads Wi' drinkin' sowins in hearty blauds, Afore the shriek o' day.

[Phs. a misprint for skriek, Skriech, q.v. The form shriek however is found in this expression in n.Eng. dial.]
