SLAAK, n. The core or quick of an animal's horn. Cf Slo, Sloch, n.3 Gael.Per. 1724 W. Macfarlane Geog. Coll. (S.H.S.) I. 342:
A bone of great length appearing to be the slaak of a horn.

[Ad. Gael. slabhag, id., but related to Sloch, n.3, and Slo, q.v. Cf. Sw. dial. slu(v), Dan. dial. slug, the quick in an animal's horn or hoof, Ger. dial. schlauch, the hoof-quick, and Eng. slough, an animal's discarded skin.]
