†SLAMBER, adj. Also slaamber. Slim, slender, lightly-built (Sh. a.1838 Jam. MSS. XII. 201, 1866 Edm. Gl., 1914 Angus Gl.). Also in extended forms slambery, id. (Sh. 1880 Jam.); slameri, of growing corn: with weak stalks, thin, light in the ear. [′slɑm(b)ər]
[Two different words may have coalesced in the above, viz. Slamp, and Norw. dial. slamen, hanging loosely. lank. flaccid, slamra, to sway, dangle. The exact phonology is somewhat uncertain.]
