I. v. To slice off, separate by slicing (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., Rxb. 1970). Deriv. sliver, n., a cross plank of wood used in the tailboard of a cart (Ib.). Obs. in Eng. exc. dial.e.Lth. 1808 Foord Acct. Bk. MS. 11:
