SLOINDIE, n. Also slo(i)ndi, slundi. A mob of people, a low rabble, a crowd of louts (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., 1914 Angus Gl., slundi, Sh. 1970). [′sloindi]Sh. 1866 in E.D.D. (1904) s.v.:
As if aw ever shanced ta see'r Shu always hed a sloindie wi'r.
Sh. 1893 Sinclair MS. 10:
Da ill wirds at he wis learned wi da sloindie o' sloos.
