SNAIL, n. 1. As in Eng. Sc. combs.: snail-caup, a snail-shell. See Cap, n., 4. Comb. snail-caup-e'en, bulging eyes, pop eyes (Sc. 1911 S.D.D.); snail spittle, cuckoo-spit, the frothy secretion found on plants (Ags. 1949).
2. In Sc. applied also to the slug (Sc. 1904 E.D.D.; Rxb. 1915 Jedburgh Gaz. (27 Aug.) 2). Gen.Sc. Obs. in Eng. exc. dial.
