ADHERENT, n. Sc. Ch. usage: a (young) person who attends the services of a Presbyterian church but is not in full communion with it.Sc. 1888 J. Rankin Handbk. Ch. Scot. 375:
There is no means of accurately measuring the position of the Free Church in the Highlands, as the communicants are not returned; and during the period under comparison the proportion and ages of adherents given have been twice changed. Kcb. 1897 Crockett Lad's Love ix.:
