BADGER, n. A Mry. name for a sea-shell, the otter shell, Lutraria elliptica, or in other places the gaper-shell, Mya arenaria.Mry. 1854 Zoologist XII. 4309:
Among the fishermen of Stotfield and Lossiemouth it has got the same name as their brethren of Findhorn give to Mya arenaria, viz., “badgers”. Mry. 1960 E. Gilbert Ae Forenicht 37:
