BARBARIAN HADDIE, n. comb. Also hadday; Barbadie- (Cai. 1975); Bulgarian-. The sea-bream, Pagellus centrodontus (Cai., Sth. 1887 Harvie-Brown and Buckley Fauna Cai. 260). [The forms represent corruptions of some word unidentified. The Gael. name is carabhanach, and an Ir. dial. form is barwin, which may be connected.]
