CUCKOO-BROGUE, n.comb. A translation of Gael. bròg na cubhaig, a name given to various blue flowers, as the bog violet, Viola palustris, the dog-violet, Viola canina, the wild hyacinth, Campanula rotundifolia. Cf. Eng. cuckoo shoe, Sc. gowk's shoe, the dog violet.Arg. 1896 N. Munro Lost Pibroch (1935) 41:
Here and there was a spot of blue from the cuckoo-brogue.
