DAFFEN, n. Also daffin. A local name for the daffodil (Sc. 1911 S.D.D.). Cf. Eng. dial. daffydown.Mry. 1949 Northern Scot (30 April):
The daffens are smored wi' the ase frae the midden.

Yon white starns wi gowden core,
the gowans, are on the gress aince mair,
