EWE, n. Irreg. or erron. form of Awe, n.1, a float-board of a water-wheel. Hence ppl.adj. ewed, fitted with ewes.Rnf. 1715 Brigend Papers MS. (Paisley Lib.) (24 Feb.):
The outer-wheel therof new struthed and ewed . . . Struthing and Ewes almost Gone.
