PORTER, v. Sc. usage: to flog (a schoolboy) by hoisting him on the back of the school-porter.Abd. a.1825 in H.F.M. Simpson Bon Record (1906) 235:
A case of portering certainly occurred during my father's school days. . . . The culprit was then stripped, and mounted entirely naked on the back of the school porter, who marched from end to end of the long room, followed by the Rector, who went on flogging the boy continuously throughout his progress.
