SHOORD. Also Shuard. Gen. in dim. forms Shoordi, Shurdie (Sh. 1975). Sh. variant forms of the Norse name Sigurd (Sh. 1891 J. Burgess Rasmie's Büddie 45, 1902 J. Burgess Some Sh. Folk 104). The name is sometimes anglicised as George (Sh. 1951 A. T. Cluness Shetland Isles 268), esp. in the patronymic form Shoordson (Sh. 1902 J. Burgess Some Sh. Folk 128), found in I. Sc. and Cai. as Georgeson.
