BARKLY. After Sir Henry Barkly (1815–98), of Rossshire, Governor in West Indies and Australia. Derivs.: 1. Barklya, in Bot., a genus of leguminosae from Queensland (1904 F. Müller in Forest Flora N.S. Wales I. 31); 2. Barklyite, a dark-red variety of carborundum from Australia (1854 M. Stephen in Quart. Jnl. Geol. Soc. X. 303).
