GEIKIE. Named after Sir Archibald Geikie (1835–1924), of Edinburgh, noted geologist, Professor of Geology at Edinburgh, Director of the Geological Survey of Gt. Britain. Hence Geikia in Zool., a fossil reptile found in the New Red Sandstone of Scotland (1892 Newton in Proc. Royal Soc. LII. 390); Geikielite, in Geol., magnesium titanate (1892 by L. Fletcher in Nature XLVI. 620).
