GRANTI(I). After Col. James A. Grant (1827–92), of Nairn, African explorer and botanist. Used as a specif. name of: 1. Bot. an Anthericum, family Liliaceae, of East Africa (1875 R. Baker in Trans. Linnean Soc. XXIX. 160); 2. Zool. (1) a Francolinus or spurfowl of E. Africa (1865 Hartlant in Proc. Zool. Soc. 665); (2) a Gazella (Grant's gazelle) of Burundi (1872 Brooke Proc. Zool. Soc. 601); and of other East African animals.
