HOPEA. Bot. 1. A genus of widely distributed shrubs and trees of the family Symploceae, so called by Linnaeus, now gen. Symplocus.

2. A genus of large resinous trees of India, order Dipterocarpus (1819 W. Roxburgh Plants Coromandel III. 9), now called Hancea.
