JOHNSTON. After George Johnston (1797–1855), of Simprim, doctor in Bwk. and naturalist. Derivs. johnstoni, specif. name of a Cyclops, one of the Entomostraca, found on the Bwk. coast (1836 W. Baird in Hist. Bwk. Nat. Club I. 97), and of other sea urchins Asterias, Halichondria, Micralymna, Nymphon, of the Scottish coasts; Johnstonia, a genus of nereid worms (1850 A. de Quatrefages in Annales des Sciences Naturelles (Dec.) 350), Pachymatisma, or sponge (1844 J. S. Bowerbank in Trans. Microscop. Soc. London I. 64).
