PITCAIRNIA. Bot. A genus of herbs and low-growing shrubs of the pineapple family found in tropical America (1788 C. L. L'Heritier Sertum Anglicum 7).
[Called after William Pitcairn (1711–91), of Dysart, a London doctor and herbalist.]
