WALKER. After John Walker (1731–1803), of Edinburgh, Professor of Natural History in the University. Derivs. 1. walkeri, in Zool. as a specif. name of a Cypraea or cowrie shell (1832 in G. Sowerby Conch. Illust. 22), of a Zonites, an Australian snail (1834 J. E. Gray in Proc. Zool. Soc. II. 63), of a Selanonius or porbeagle shark (1828 J. Fleming Hist. Brit. Anim. 169); 2. Walkeria, a genus of hydroid or Sertularia (1823 J. Fleming in Mem. Wernerian Nat. Hist. Soc. IV. 490); 3. Walkerite, in Geol., a magnesian variety of pectolite (1880 Mineral. Mag. IV. 121).
