YOUNG. Zool. After John Young (1835–1902), of Edinburgh, Professor of Natural History at Glasgow, or John Young (1823–1900), of Campsie, Deputy Curator of the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow. Derivs. Youngia, (1) a genus of fossil ostracod (1886 Jones & Kirby in Proc. Geol. Assoc. London IX. 15), later called Youngiella; (2) a trilobite of the Lower Silurian period (1885 G. Lindström in Förteck. Gotlands XLII. (6) 49); Youngina, a thecodont reptile from the Upper Permian strata of S. Africa (1914 R. Broom in Proc. Zool. Soc. London 1072); and closely-related variants Youngoides (1937 Olson & Broom in Journal Palaeontol. XI. 614), Youngopsis (1938 Ib. in Proc. Zool. Soc. London CVII. B. 317).
