[The form suggests Du. orig. Cf. Du. avond, eve(ning). The first element may be a corruption of Samonas, a 4th-c. saint, “the avenger of unfulfilled contracts”, whose day is Nov. 15 (New Style).]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
