SPLARTIN, ppl.adj. “Chattering, talkative; quarrelsome” (Sc. 1904 E.D.D.). See etym. note.Kcb. 1895 Crockett Moss-Hags 1.:
He looked upward to where the crows were chattering. “Crawin' and splartin' deils,” he said.

[Sic E.D.D., adducing Yks. dial. splart, id., but the word may mean rather “squirting (their droppings).” Cf. Splurt, splirt, Plert.]
