SPRUD, n. Also sprod (Abd.). A knife used for prising limpets from a rock (Kcd. 1880 Jam.; Abd., Kcd. 1971). [sprʌd]Kcd. 1966 Scots Mag. (Feb.) 484:
Limpets had to be prised off the rocks When the tide was out, by the use of a stout, short knife, called a “sprud.”
