†STAMMAN, adj. Having a propensity to steal, thievish, light-fingered.Ork. 1930 Orcadian (13 Feb.):
Stamman was a word sometimes used here of old. "He was a peur stamman ting; he couldna geong by a gait ithoot taakin' suntin fae aboot hid," was the phrase I once heard used of one, whom a "modernist" would call buttery-fingered.
