STILK, n. Also stijlk (Angus). A stalk, esp. of corn or seaweed, the stem of a plant (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl., Sh. 1971), freq. connoting a weak spindly crop, as in phr. standin' stilk (Sh. 1897 J. Jakobsen Dial. Sh. 46). [stəilk]
