1. As in Eng., to play on a musical, esp. a stringed, instrument in a casual manner. Freq. form strummel.Sc. 1928 Scots Mag. (July) 275:

2. In vbl.n. strumming, a buzzing, thrilling or drumming sensation in the head, dizziness, confusion (Slk. 1825 Jam.).Slk. 1822 Hogg Perils of Man II. vii.:
