†STRUNTIN, n. Also -ain. A type of coarse, narrow, worsted tape or braid, orig. made at Stow in Midlothian.m.Lth. 1795 Stat. Acc.1 VII. 138:
Stow struntain, made of the coarsest wool, and wrought by the women on a loom like a bed-heck. This is used for garters and bindings.Rxb. 1807 J. Ruickbie Wayside Cottager 105:
Whan cotters liv'd on cogs o' brose, An' wi' stow-struntin tied their hose.
