SUKKATOO, n. Also sukkatu, sokka-. Coarse or loosely-twined yarn, yarn which has been spoilt in spinning (Sh. 1904 E.D.D., 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1971). Also given as “a wet soaking condition” (E.D.D.) see quot., due to confusion with soak, or Sock, v.2Sh. 1897 Shetland News (9 Oct.):
I fan dem [trousers] lyin' inunder da mill in sukkatoo. A'm no tinkin' bit what dey're half ruin'd.
