SUMMOCK, n. Also sumac, summoch, sammoch. A cloth or pad placed under a pack-saddle to prevent chafing of the horse's back.Per. 1733–48 Atholl MSS.:
To five sammochs for the Stone Cairts . . 5s. To 3 Summochs . . 2s. 9d.
