SWECH, v. To make the plashing rumbling noise of rushing water, a waterfall, etc. Vbl.n. swechynge, the sound made by a waterfall, the whistling of the wind (s.Sc. 1825 Jam.). [swɛç]Sc. 1820 Scots Mag. (May) 93:
Alike scartfree on the pule are we, And in the swechan' lin.

[? Nonce altered form of Souch. Cf. earlier form swouch, swogh, seuch, etc. But there may be some confusion with Swecht.]
