TAN, n. A temporary tent, hut or cabin, such as is set up by tinkers or gipsies. Only in Crockett.Kcb. 1895 Crockett Moss-Hags ii.:
Dirty, low, reeky tans were set here and there.
Kcb. 1911 Crockett Smugglers xii.:
She had the liberty of tan and ken, of barn, tent, and caravan long before you.
