TANTRUM, n. Sc. usages, also in Eng. dial. affected airs, palavers (Sc. 1808 Jam., I.Sc., Ags. 1972), “foolish fancies” (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 444). The Sc. meanings imply whims or vagaries rather than fits of bad temper.
