TIBBIE THIEFIE, n. Also Tibbie Fithie. The common sandpiper, Tringoides hypoleucus (ne.Sc. 1903 G. Sim Fauna ofDee” 175, 1951 Abd. Press and Jnl. (7 Sept.); Ags. 1972), also applied to the characteristic call of this bird (Sc. 1911 S.D.D.). See also Kittie, n.1, 5. (6).Ags. 1907 A. N. Simpson Familiar Sc. Birds 139:
In some localities this bird is known as “Tibbie Fithie.”
