TINGALEERIE, n. [tɪŋɑ′liri]

1. A ringing, tinkling noise. Comb. tingaleerie man, a one-man band (Dmb. 1958), said to be from the nickname of an itinerant minstrel who wandered about the Rnf. and Gsw. area c.1900.

2. A vase or dish with glass or crystal pendants (Fif. 1972).Abd. 1943 W. S. Forsyth Guff o' Waur 2:
The china dogs and tingaleerie dish.

[Imit. Cf. Eng. ting-a-ling, of a clinking sound like that of a bell.]
