I. n. A wooden skewer or spit for fish when drying (Ork. 1887 Jam., 1929 Marw., Ork. 1972).

II. v. To spit fish, to fix them on tinos (Ork. 1887 Jam., Ork. 1972).

[Deriv. in -o (see -O, suff.), of Norw. dial. tein, O.N. teinn, a spit or stake on which to hang things.]
