[The form arises from 'd (See D, letter, 5.), 't (= it, in colloq. speech) to which the full form it has been added tautologically, as gie 'im 't > gie 'im 't it > gie 'im tit, poss. also from wrong division as in I kenna tit < I ken not it.]
