TOST, v., n. Also toast. [tost]
I. v. To tease, vex, harass (Cld. 1825 Jam.); to toss (Sc. 1825 Jam.). Ppl.adj. tostit, -ed, harassed, oppressed (n.Sc. 1825 Jam.). Vbl.n. tostin. = II. (Sh. 1972).
II. n. A bout, spell of something unpleasant, infliction. Cf. Toss, n.1, 1.Lnk. a.1779 D. Graham Writings (1883) II. 214:
He underwent a severe tost of the old plaister, before any mercy was shown.
