TRIPING, n. Coal from which the larger lumps have been separated, later applied to coal as it comes from the workings unscreened (Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 68), a kind of drossy coal (Fif., wm.Sc. 1973). [′trəipɪn]Sc. 1901 Scotsman (29 May):
